Study Economics and Management
The Bachelor´s degree programme Economics and Management examines issues central to the world we live in: namely how the economy and organisations function, and how resources are allocated and coordinated to achieve the organisation’s objectives. Graduates of the programme are provided with basic, general preparation in the economic, corporate, quantitative and legal fields, as well as a solid methodological training in the analysis and critical interpretation of economic and corporate dynamics. They can work in management positions in a wide spectrum of companies. The degree programme prepares students to enter the job market immediately upon graduation or pursue a Master’s degree.
What a graduate of the Economics and Management program can do
- explain key economic concepts, terminology of economics, business economics, finance, management, marketing, informatics, statistics, accounting and business law. The graduate understands the functioning of economic entities and the international business environment.
- monitor and analyze the activities of organizations, prepare documents for decision-making and determine trends of future development based on current analysis. The graduate effectively uses IT tools and processes data to support decision-making.
- prepare documents for negotiations with business partners, formulate and present professional problems and their solutions, and participate in conducting business negotiations.
- manage smaller work and project teams, carry out preparations for professional negotiations and present various types of financial analyses.
- understand professional text and communicate in English. Can interpret the impacts of the business environment on organizations and participate in their strategic management.

The course Microeconomics introduces students to key principles of microeconomic theory, focusing on market dynamics, consumer behaviour, and firm decision-making. Students will explore supply, demand, and pricing across various markets, analysing firm behaviour in competitive and imperfect environments. The course also examines land, labour, and capital markets, along with market and state failure issues. Emphasis is on how these factors influence market efficiency and the government’s role in addressing failures, helping students understand the microeconomic forces shaping individual and firm behaviour in the economy.
The course Macroeconomics offers students a comprehensive understanding of the aggregate economy, focusing on key indicators like GDP, inflation, unemployment, and trade. It explores how these variables interact to shape the economy and examines major macroeconomic theories and policies, analysing their impacts on national and global levels. Emphasis is on applying macroeconomic concepts to current conditions using real-world examples. Students will develop critical thinking skills and evaluate the effectiveness of various macroeconomic policies in real scenarios.
The course Principles of Finance introduces students to fundamental finance concepts and the structure of the financial system. It covers key topics like the functions of money, the role of financial institutions, and the operation of financial markets. Special attention is given to the Czech Republic’s transition to a market economy and recent developments in the EU, particularly regarding monetary integration. This course provides a foundational understanding of finance, preparing students for further studies in economics and financial systems.
The course Principles of Marketing introduces students to core marketing concepts and functions. Topics include the marketing cycle, customer markets, and strategy development, focusing on market segmentation, targeting, and positioning. Students analyse consumer behaviour in both B2C and B2B markets and explore the marketing mix, research techniques, and management of marketing activities. Emphasis is on practical applications like product development, pricing strategies, distribution channels, and integrated marketing communications in offline and online environments.
The course Management introduces students to fundamental principles and significance of management, emphasizing its interdisciplinary nature. It provides an overview of historical developments and current trends in management. Students explore key managerial functions, including basic, ongoing, and safeguarding functions, as well as insights into managerial negotiation. The course highlights management as a system, covering roles, functions, different management styles, and the use of modern information technologies and communication within management systems.
The course Accounting introduces students to fundamental accounting principles and financial reporting. Key topics include the preparation and analysis of financial statements, such as the balance sheet and income statement, and the differences between accrual and cash accounting. Students will study current and long-term assets, liabilities, depreciation, and bond amortization. The course also covers inventory management, internal control systems, and ethical considerations, along with cash flow statements, financial ratio analysis, and accounting for partnerships and corporations, focusing on journal entries and profit division.
The course Quantitative Methods covers fundamental mathematical concepts such as set theory, vector spaces, and matrix algebra. Students will learn methods for solving linear equations, explore sequences, limits, and series, and study functions and their continuity. The course also includes differential calculus, graph sketching, and L’Hospital’s rule, as well as indefinite and definite integrals, focusing on methods of integration and their geometric applications.
The course Entrepreneurship explores the entrepreneurial mindset, emphasizing the process of idea development, creativity, and identifying opportunities. Students will learn about start-up support policies, including ecosystems like incubators and accelerators, and the management skills needed to operate a business. The course covers specific types of business ventures, such as family and social businesses, and strategies for managing and growing a venture through networking and innovation. It also addresses the challenges of international business ventures, including licensing, franchising, and strategies for success in global markets.
