Study Economics and Management
The Master’s degree program Economics and Management is designed to prepare university-educated professionals with economic knowledge and managerial skills that are able to act in higher or top management positions not only in the business sphere after acquiring appropriate practice. Emphasis is placed on international accents of entrepreneurial activities during study. Successful graduates are prepared to enter the job market immediately or they have the opportunity to continue in PhD studies.
What a graduate of the Economics and Management program can do
- understand the terminology of business sciences, mathematics and statistics and understand the principles of economic models, including their impacts on the macroeconomic and microeconomic levels.
- understand the functioning of economic entities and the business environment at the international level and can make decisions about the economic activities of organizations based on an analysis of the current state and an estimate of future development.

- organize and manage the economic activities of organizations at the middle and senior management levels, develop his/her own business activities and be responsible for the implementation of the corporate strategy or its key parts.

The course Advanced Microeconomics delves into key microeconomic theories, including market mechanisms, consumer choice, and firm behaviour in both perfect and imperfect competition. Students will explore production functions, cost structures, and profit maximization, with a focus on general equilibrium analysis. The course also covers labour and capital markets, analysing the effects of competition and monopsony. Additionally, topics like externalities, public goods, and information asymmetry are examined to understand market inefficiencies and the role of government in addressing market failures.
The course Advanced Macroeconomics covers key macroeconomic models and theories. Students explore Keynesian models, examining equilibrium income and the crowding-out effect. The course delves into open economy dynamics, including balance of payments, exchange rates, and trade balances. IS-LM and IS-LM-BP models are analysed to understand fiscal and monetary policy impacts. The AS-AD model is studied to assess aggregate demand and supply, while business cycle theory explains economic fluctuations. The course concludes with a focus on economic growth, its drivers, costs, and benefits, including empirical cases and convergence theories.
The course Strategic Marketing builds on prior knowledge from marketing and management courses, aiming to deepen students‘ understanding of theoretical and methodological foundations. It emphasizes interdisciplinary connections and the ability to evaluate complex business and marketing phenomena. Students will engage in research, problem-solving, and apply research results to real-world projects. The course focuses on practical applications, encouraging students to develop comprehensive marketing strategies. It is closely connected to other courses and the diploma thesis, providing a practical framework for strategic marketing decisions.
The course Human Resource Management explores the evolution of HR functions, covering key concepts like personnel management and strategic HRM. Students learn about organizational behavior, talent management, and the processes of learning, training, and performance management. The course also addresses international HRM, focusing on global organizations, expatriates, and international recruitment. Ethical considerations, leadership, and conflict management are integral parts of the curriculum, equipping students with skills to handle workplace dilemmas and organizational politics effectively in a global context.
The course Managerial Economics focuses on key business economics concepts and their application in decision-making. The course International Financial Management covers key principles of managing finances globally, including international financial markets, foreign exchange risk management, and asset and liability management. Students explore multinational corporations, foreign direct investments, capital budgeting, and short-term financing. The focus is on managing financial operations and mitigating risks in international markets.
The course Retail Management covers global retail trends, formats, and trade area analysis. Students explore retail marketing, consumer behaviour, pricing, and merchandising, including store design and customer experience. The course also addresses supplier relationships, B2B marketing, and supply chain management. Additionally, it focuses on e-tailing, digitalization, and technologies like barcodes, QR codes, and RFID, as well as ethical and environmental aspects of retailing.
